General Responsibilities

To act at all times in accordance with the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (HFEA) Code of Practice, the National Healthcare Standards Commission and the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct, CQC & ISO9001

To promote and maintain a high standard of patient care at all times following and adherence to all our clients policies and protocols.

To communicate effectively with all members of the Unit and maintain continuity of patient care. Without discrimination or prejudice against a persons sex, religion, age, race, ethnicity, quality or diversity.

Establish and provide good relationships with patients and their relatives and respect all confidential information received, in accordance with HFEA guidelines.

Reporting condition or concern regarding patient(s) to medical staff and ensuring that received instructions are carried out promptly and satisfactorily.

To ensure that patients are protected from unnecessary physical and mental disturbance hence ensuring his/her safety and well-being at all times.

To ensure Nurses and HCA’s are productive and efficiently managing their work list in order to ensure patients are seen on time.

To understand the need to keep accurate records in the nursing of patients or any point of contacting whether in the clinic or on the telephone.

Increase knowledge of fertility treatment to assist patients in their understanding of this complex treatment.

Act appropriately and level headed in emergencies, stressful situations or through change.

To co-ordinate the PGS and NHS programmes with all departments and staff involved.

To update yourself regularly on cardiac arrest and fire procedures and ensure all mandatory training attended NMC registration is up to date .

To promote the Unit and its role in the private as well as the NHS sector, acting in a professional manner at all times.

General Duties

To answer queries and send information to prospective patients when requested.

To answer queries and where possible reassure patients undergoing treatment or awaiting outcome of treatment.

To act as chaperone to consultations as and when required.

To provide detailed information and support following patient consultation and update IDEAS accurately with patient information and specific details surrounding consultation.

To liaise with other departments, e.g. theatres, X-Ray, Endocrine Laboratory, and with other medical staff, e.g. anaesthetists, Admin Team, both internal & external stakeholders.

To provide informed counselling relating to patient treatment, in accordance with HFEA guidelines and refer patients to counsellors when required.

To give prescribed injections to patients undergoing treatment at the Unit, as required.

To take bloods and swabs for screening, as required, ensure all documents including checklist are accurately completed and signed, to also complete appropriate paperwork associated with all and any of the above points.

Medicines management as per Unit protocol.

Specific Duties of Deputy Nurse Manager

At all times support and work with the Nurse manager in the daily task and responsibilities of the Nursing Team and alert General Manage or Director of any serious issues

In the absence of Nurse Manager, Liaise with Clinicians and any other discipline in the running of the Unit

Directly responsible for the HCA’s in their development, training needs and all aspects of HR inquiries. Liaise with Line Manager and General Manager for support and guidance

Manage and produce Nursing roster, ensure staff are appropriately allocated and efficiently assigned to clinic calendars and complete daily task

Ensure approachable to all Nursing team for matters of HR related inquiries and responding in a professional empathetic manner, keeping line managers abreast of any issues

Required to deal with sensitive matters confidentially and senior management level

Act as mentor and recognise areas of training needs and staff development

Hold regularly HCA meetings to cascade information regarding our clients update team on revised protocols and exchange best practices

Ongoing personal training and new staff and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) of existing staff

Support Nurse Manager in the preparation of audits, including ISO9000, HFEA, CQC and Risk Assessments

Ensure documents and activity are compliant with CQC and HFEA regulations and take action in resolving any non-compliances
