This is a really exciting role working across the community nursing team, with the potential to gain experience in Adult Social Care and Mental Health. You’ll be providing care to patients over the age of 18 in a hospital setting, this can be a range of patients; predominantly the elderly and working within mental health and social service such as caring for the elderly, people who require rehabilitation, post fractures, orthopaedics, Parkinson’s and post stroke. But this is a fast growing and developing service and the career progression is endless.

You will be assisting the nurses to provide the patient care. The team is supported by a very friendly team of nurses, therapists and Doctors working closely together to achieve the best outcomes for our patients.

The role does require you to work very flexibly across the week, however; the majority of the shifts worked will be between 7am – 3pm, 1pm-7pm or 7am-7pm. You will only have to work 1 weekend every 3 weeks

This role will involve:

Providing personal, therapeutic and social support as agreed in patients’ individual intervention plans (which are set by a health or social care professional) whilst also encouraging the patient to remain as independent as possible.

  • To assist in providing nursing care as delegated by the nursing team
  • You will be carrying out wound care, administering medication, catheter care ect.
  • Reporting any changes in the patient’s condition / progress to the Team Leader
  • Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide various care including personal, social and palliative care, and any other components of the nursing service (and others as they are developed).
  • Providing dignity, respect, confidentiality and safety at all times
  • To carry out phlebotomy in a hospital setting following full training

The following is required:

  • Ability to work both independently and also as part of the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Experience in working within NHS Wards
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care
  • Experience of working with the elderly ill and having rehabilitation.
  • Ability to relate to both patients and colleagues in a sensitive manner
  • Flexible approach to work with the ability to work across a seven day service.
  • Ability to deal with a range of difficult or emotional situations – always demonstrating a sensitive and diplomatic approach
  • The desire to undertake further training as appropriate
