THE ORGANISATION:

Our client is a private residential care home for the elderly registered with the Care Quality Commission for 39 residents and is rated as ‘Good’. They enjoy an excellent reputation in Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties in offering:

  • Long term residential care for the elderly.
  • Residential care for those suffering from a variety of conditions.
  • Short stay respite and holiday breaks.
  • Intermediate care for elderly patients who have been discharged from hospital and require temporary rehabilitation.

Our client is owned by a family owned company, which has been operating care homes for the elderly in Cambridgeshire for over 25 years. The company has owned Paxton Hall since 2000. The Directors visit the home regularly and are closely involved in the oversight of the home’s management.

The home is managed on a daily basis by an experienced qualified manager and deputy manager, an administrator, and senior supervisors who run the care shifts. They are assisted by about 30 other staff including an activities co-ordinator, care assistants, a cleaning supervisor and cleaning staff, an experienced handyman and a gardener.

THE ROLE:

To provide a superior level of care and set an example for other members of Care staff. You will assist with essential aspects of care as well as -

  1. To be responsible for directing and working with care staff on shift. In the absence of senior staff to be the person responsible for the home.
  2. To be responsible for the shift by directing care assistants on duty, ensuring that proper records are kept during the shift and the handovers are detailed and effective so that everyone is aware of the needs of each resident under their care.
  3. Ensure at the start of each shift that the shift is properly staffed as per the rota. Speak to the previous shift lead, including night staff, to ensure that any calls received from staff regarding their availability are noted and cover arranged where necessary. Ensure that senior staff and or the administrator is informed of changes to the rota and any outstanding issues in arranging cover.
  4. Help to ensure that all carer assistants on shift contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient running of the home and the creation of the right atmosphere.
  5. Check residents who are unwell or frail and report any concerns to the senior staff. Call the GP or the ambulance service if necessary.
  6. Deal with GPs and other health professionals (e.g. District Nurse) during their visits.
  7. Support residents with their personal care needs through both directing and supervising other staff as well as by providing direct care.
  8. Be responsible for the medication rounds during the shift. Assist senior staff with the medication audit and ordering and booking in process.
  9. Encourage residents to participate in activities which will enhance their quality of life.
  10. Assist senior staff with the formulation of care plans.
  11. Ensure that serving of food meets the required standards.
  12. Help maintain such records as may be required by the Manager and the proprietors.
  13. Help to ensure that rooms and common spaces are properly cleaned and adequately heated.
  14. Participate in staff meetings and in staff training and development activities.
  15. Perform other duties as may reasonably be required.
