THE ROLE:

Our client is looking for a Speech & Language Therapist – Neurorehabilitation (Band 6 equivalent) to join our specialist Specialist Brain Injury Neurological Care and Rehabilitation Service.
The centre provides a person-centred inpatient rehabilitation and care for male and female adolescents and adults (over 17 years) with a brain injury or other complex neurological condition.
Throughout their stay with us, our patients are encouraged to make individual choices about all aspects of life at the centre and to be as independent as possible.

As a Speech and Language Therapist working in our Specialist Brain Injury Neurological Care and Rehabilitation Service, your main duties will be:-

  • Providing the assessment and management of communication and swallowing disorders and devising evidence-led programmes for patients at a specialist level
  • Maintaining high standards of clinical care in line with national guidance for excellence
  • Working as a Named Therapist to ensure active coordination of therapy and discharge goals
  • Providing clinical supervision and informal mentoring of SLT RT and student placements where appropriate
  • Participating in internal training (induction, mandatory training, MDT in-service)
  • Ensuring all relevant codes of practice and regulations are upheld
  • Participating in service delivery audit

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

  • Hold a recognised BSc or recognised postgraduate diploma in speech and language therapy
  • Be a registered member of the HCPC
  • Be a registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists with a current licence to practice
  • Hold specialist level dysphagia competency on the RCSLT framework
  • Be adept in this specialist clinical area, including evidence of post-graduate training in working with people with acquired neurological impairments
  • Have demonstrable experience with aphasia, cognitive communication disorder, dysarthria, apraxia and dysphagia
  • Have demonstrable experience of clinical supervision of students and others
  • Be an excellent communicator – both written and verbally
  • Have highly developed interpretive skills
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills – including observation, listening and empathy skills
