THE ROLE:
As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will work within the team in delivering appropriate rehabilitation for adults with acquired brain injury.
- To assess and report on resident’s speech, language and communication.
- To devise, deliver, communicate and monitor appropriate programmes and treatment for the residents’ specific communication needs.
– To compile and implement appropriate care and treatment plans.
You will also take a central role within the TDT in assessing, documenting and implementing appropriate intervention with residents with eating, drinking or swallowing difficulties:
– To screen all new admissions within the first week for dysphagic involvement.
– To provide dysphagia care for all residents.
– To carry out assessment of dysphagia where the need is indicated by the SLT or any other team member.
– To document the findings of assessment and to compile and implement a risk management plan with guidelines to reduce risk of choking or aspiration for all TDT members to follow.
– To liaise closely with the TDT and to work within area of competence.
– To provide training and information about eating and drinking issues with all staff.
– To monitor and review progress and report to the TDT.
– To plan and communicate a detailed discharge report regarding dysphagia and recommended interventions.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:
To be successful in this post, you must have:
– HCPC registration
– Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
– Specialist level dysphagia practitioner (Level C)
– Maintain required continuing professional development
