THE ORGANISATION:

Our clients service in Southampton is an 8 bed specialist residential service for adults with autism and who may present with behaviours that challenge. We aim to provide a safe, comfortable and effective care environment for those in our care, promoting independence and community integration.

Oakhurst Lodge is set in a large garden that has perimeter fencing and automatic gates which provide a safe and secure environment.

Person-centred planning is at the heart of everything they do, based on the specific needs of the individuals in their care. We understand that consistency and continuity of care is important for the people they care for.

Here you will offer enhanced care with a flexible learning approach for all their residents, working the residential area, providing guidance and encouragement to residents through physical and emotional support.

While maintaining a safe, clean and enjoyable environment to live and work in by assisting residents with their medical and welfare needs and report as required. As well as safeguarding residents and learning about individuals’ specific needs and provide help in the most appropriate way.

THE ROLE:

We have an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate, caring and want to make a difference to people’s lives. You will assist the team, playing an important role in the daily routine of the service users, with a focus on dignity and safety at all times.

The service our client has developed and are continuing to develop, has created truly bespoke living environments in the community for people who need support. Our approach is to shape provision so that we can be responsive to behavioural, sensory, or physical needs in a residential setting. Positive behaviour support is a key part of the person-centered care we provide. The model aims to improve quality of life for our residents, by helping to reduce social barriers, enabling individuals to lead a more active and fulfilling life.

The management and staff team have comprehensive training, including all mandatory training and bespoke training specific to the needs of the residents, this includes CIS, safeguarding, food safety, first aid, MAPA, mental health, mental capacity and record keeping.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

You will be dedicated, caring and passionate about helping people; having a real interest in improving the lives of others. As well as have the sensitivity and energy required to provide a trusting, stimulating and varied lifestyle for the residents.

Whilst an NVQ level 1 or 2 in a relevant care setting is preferable, it isn’t a necessity. A good level of literacy and numeracy skills will be necessary, but also a drive to develop your knowledge and skills to ensure you are constantly providing the best quality care for services users and a high-level knowledge base / support system to your team. Whilst also being able to demonstrate the ability to effectively deal with a range of challenging situations, bringing with you a strong mental aptitude meeting the demands of the role.

They’ll give you the training you need to start helping people straight away. Yes, it can be a challenge working with people who have mental health problems. But you can make a real difference on their road to recovery. It’s hugely rewarding.
