Our client is an innovative provider of education and care for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Their goal is quite simple. They want to “empower uniqueness” in every child, young person and adult that they support. By empowering each individual, they can help them grow in their own unique and inspiring way.

Due to continued expansion; we’re currently looking for a number of Support Workers in Westbury Park, Bristol where our clients’ children’s home supports children and young people aged 5 to 19 years with severe and complex difficulties including those on the autistic spectrum and with physical and sensory needs.

The support provided enables each young person to engage and progress at their own level within a living and learning environment that is all about enriching individual lives and helping everyone to achieve their full potential as they reach adulthood.

The key to this role will be ensuring that all the children and young people receive a high standard of care whilst living and learning in a safe, clean and homely environment where they are encouraged to be as active as they can be in their local community; encouraged to try new things and do the things they really want to do.

To facilitate this, you will follow guidance on how best to provide support during different activities throughout the day and proactively contribute to the individual support plans we have in pace for each child.

You’ll take an active role in organising and supporting independent living skills and leisure activities and will also be expected to support and prepare attendance to health checks and specialist appointments, including hospital and dental appointments etc. and liaise with parents, guardians, House Managers and Class Teachers to ensure that any resultant actions are appropriately implemented, followed and reviewed.

Naturally; you’ll understand what ‘good care’ looks like, be able to articulate and promote this; ensuring that any problems with the care/safety/environment are reported and escalated if necessary.

With full training and continued support you will take responsibility for the care of their clothes, bedrooms, personal belongings and ensure that all their medical needs are met at all times including the administering and recording of prescribed medication.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • To keep students safe
  • Implement the Waking Day Curriculum for young people
  • Support the maintenance of a safe, homely environment
  • Understand and comply with regulatory standards
  • Promote and encourage independence at all times
  • Liaison with parents, guardians and colleagues
  • As appropriate, attend meetings and contribute towards planning around the young person

Ultimately, our client is looking for people with a passion to positively change the lives of the children that they work with. It is therefore essential that you have had some experience (either through your personal life or working practice) of caring for others.

You will be dedicated and passionate about helping people and have a real interest in improving the lives of others.

  • Knowledge and experience of supporting vulnerable people
  • Relevant knowledge or experience of special needs environment(s).
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and/or DOLs procedures
  • Experience of a range of approaches to managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours.
  • Experience working within support/care roles

You must be able to demonstrate you can work as part of a team as well as an ability to work independently. For the right candidate, this will be both a rewarding and satisfying job.

Be part of our successful team and benefit from a generous package that includes:

  • Training and Development
  • Supported through your NVQ, educationally and financially
  • Life assurance
  • Pension plan
  • High street discounts
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Paid holiday
  • Free onsite parking
